Machine Learning in CCM
CCM is home to a large and vibrant group of researchers in the areas of machine learning and computational statistics. Particular areas of interest include:
- Bayesian statistics
- Deep learning and representation learning
- High dimensional data analysis
- Learning theory
- Machine learning for science and scientific computing
- Markov chain Monte Carlo methods
- Probabilistic programming
- Stochastic optimization
- Variational inference
Research scientists
Research scientists are permanent staff that serve as mentors for postdocs and summer interns. They are also responsible for the long-term vision of ML research in CCM.Visiting scholars and guest researchers:
- David Blei (Columbia)
- Nawaf Bou-Rabee (Rutgers)
- Joan Bruna (NYU)
- Dan Lee (Cornell)
- Sifan Liu (Duke)
- Sebastian Seung (Princeton)
- Soledad Villars (JHU)
Postdocs:
Postdocs are appointed as Flatiron Research Fellows with three-year terms. They are free to pursue their own intellectual agenda, and they are encouraged to collaborate with researchers across all of Flatiron. As part of their support, they are offered a generous travel budget and access to subsidized housing in Greenwich Village.Alumni:
- Chirag Modi (2024 → NYU)
- Yuling Yao (2024 → UT Austin)
- Loucas Pillaud-Vivien (2024 → Ecole des Ponts ParisTech)
- Brett Larsen (2023 → DataBricks)
- Wenda Zhou (2023 → OpenAI)
- Eric Thiede (2023 → Cornell)
Job openings:
We interview seasonally for summer interns, three-year postdocs, and research scientists. This year we are also advertising a joint position for an associate research scientist in CCM and a tenure-track faculty member in the Computer Science Department at Cooper Union.
