I am an astrophysicist working in the field of computational galaxy formation and cosmology:
I try to understand how galaxies form and evolve, and do so primarily by generating digital 'mini-universes' using supercomputer simulations and analyzing them in ways that are not available to us with the real physical Universe.
In 2016 I joined the newly-founded Center for Computational Astrophysics at the Flatiron Institute (a division of the Simons Foundation) as an Associate Research Scientist. I also hold an Adjunct Research Scientist position at Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory and spend a fraction of my time there.
Before that, I was a Hubble Fellow at the Astronomy Department of Columbia University, and before that an ITC post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. I did my PhD in Astrophysics at the Max-Planck-Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching, near Munich, under the guidance of Reinhard Genzel.
